Tioga - Bald Eagle @ DC / US National Zoo

Tioga, the male Bald Eagle at the US National Zoo from today 8/27/2006. He is easy to tell apart from Samantha because the feathers on his head still contain some dark streaks... Samantha is pretty much pure white in her feathers.

As I noted in my previous photo, shooting them from close up with minus EV is needed for good results. This one is from a jpg shot at -1 EV. The background disappeared as a result and the details in the head feathers are all still there.

Nikon D200, 1/250, f/8, 400 mm, ISO Speed: 320, Exposure Bias: -1 EV, Vivid mode.

Another GREAT capture Jon. They just got their Bald Eagle back at the WBS and as soon as I can get back out there I HOPE to have some great eagle shots too.
      Thanks for sharing.

Great work with the -1 EV!

BTW, thanks for your advice regarding the - EV. Yesterday 90% of my shots were taken using -1 EV. One of my main concerns had been getting in-flight shots in other modes besides the sports mode. I was able to get some fairly decent in-flight shots using ISO 400 and -1EV. I'm getting ready to go out again today and will continue experimenting!

It's impossible to make an eagle laugh...but that's okay. They're still amazing creatures.
