      I found out today that all Pandas in zoos around the world belong to China. They are loaned (rented) to the various zoos for a cool million per year each breeding pair. If a panda cub is born at the zoo they get a discount at $600K/yr for 2 years and then China will most likely want to move it somewhere else for breeding purposes.

      This is the reason that many zoos are no longer going to host Pandas - too expensive.
