Royce + Prestat's 1st Litter

Old photo :)

They are still relatively tiny though. I don't think they grew all that much from when this photo was taken. Guess, I can see why some jurisdictions disallow Roborovskiis under the age of 5 weeks old to be sold, when other hamsters can be sold from the age of 2.5 weeks :)

2nd Litter.

    How cute!
Some hamsters are sold after 2.5 weeks? That seems a bit early! I thought most hamsters still nursed until 21 days.

they are cute. Their hairdos are very modern. I think you should either keep them or send them to me. ha ha

They are fine, most have gone to new homes. Thanks.

Yes it does seem early. They will nurse as long as they can :) I usually stop them after a bit because it tires out the mother and she gets frustrated with them after 2.5weeks :)

We carefully observe and wean them here at the age of two to 2.5weeks for non-Robo dwarfs, and a little later for Robos. We separate them from their parents to give their parents a good rest before subsequent litters arrive. But this doesn't mean we sell them at that age, we keep them here with us til they are ready :)

I would love to send them to you, if only you didn't live half the world away!! :P Thanks dear, I think you need a new hamham!!

I was just curious and that makes perfect sense actually!

  8. hesedetang * (42 months ago | reply)

    Hee, you're alright :)

But yes, we get shops selling very young hamsters here too. I know your concerns!

I suppose also, that I rather double or triple the protein level in the mother's diet once she is pregnant, and step in to feed the kiddies with a home-made soft diet, than have her nurse them for a complete three weeks? Somehow it seems to be very successful so far :)

    Thank you :):)

I was just wondering how that worked is all! You are a professional breeder and I don't doubt your methods one bit! When pups were in my home I always did the whole process because I never knew you could wean them any sooner. I know it strains the mother but back then I didn't have as much knowledge as I do now.
If I ever decide to breed again (hopefully someday when I have a house) if I have any questions I would definitely seek your advice!
I guess I did okay with the mothers that I had because one lived to be a little over two years and the other Dwarf was almost three.

Hahaha! I believe that Robo baby fuzz grows faster than the rest of the Robo baby XD So they end up not sure what to do with the abundance of fuzz? :P It's really, really endearing :D Thanks guys!!

Hahaha, well I'm not a professional breeder, just a hobbyist who is obsessed with keeping to a high standard that I've forced upon myself >___>!

My hamstery never makes any profits and has never done so for all the years it has been in existence :):) It is just a labour of love :):)

Nearly three! Now, that's long life for a dwarf :):) My friend in the USA is actually doing research into longevity. He says he has a very healthy 8year old hammy!! How amazing is that!

  17. ★Morgainne★ (42 months ago | reply)

8 years old? Wow! I wonder what he feeds his hamster!? That's a long time! Amazing!

Well, I think your hamsters are lucky to have such a caring owner! : )

Eeeeeeeeek!!!! So cuttttteee!! It's amazing how at this tender age you can get them to sit in your palm so steadily. :D

He actually told me he feeds them a pellet-based diet, and fresh vegetables. This is enough for his hamsters because they are mostly males and have never been bred with females, so pellets are sufficient for them as they do not require additional protein supplements to their diet seeing that they do not have to give birth or nurse their young.

He tells me that he doesn't allow them to run on exercise wheels, but gives them a huge enclosure. He says this actually prevents them from over-exerting themselves?

After his sharing with me, I have also cut down on the amount of time my hamsters get their wheels, and I will say it does seem like it helps them somewhat.

Hahaha, this was a few weeks ago dear, they instantly hop off now? It's like trying to hold popcorn!!

interesting...you would think a hamster would know not to overexert themselves. quite fascinating!
