Per Natale vorrei una stella lucente e bella. For Christmas I would like a beautiful and bright star.

      Dalle rupi guardavano
      assonnati i pastori
      gli spazi della mezzanotte.

E li accanto, sconosciuta prima d’allora,
      più modesta di un lucignolo
      alla finestrella di un capanno,
      tremava una stella
      sulla strada di Betlemme.

This photo is became an illustration for one christmas article of finnish Salvation Army's magazine "SotaHuuto" (=WarCry).

      this is the article:

      --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------

Don’t be afraid! Good news! Joy to the world!

When Nokia launches a new smart phone, they, of course, put a lot of effort in announcing all the wonderful features of their now product. The same happens when Opel or Volkswagen launch a new car. Because the manufacturers have done all they can to make the best product possible, they believe that it is going to make our lives easier and more pleasant. However, when we have barely got used to the new features, the manufacturers send out a new announcement for yet an even better new phone or car. There are always new and better products on the way.

The most important announcement ever to come to the world was 2000 years ago about the coming of a new baby, Jesus. And this is how he was announced:
“Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people (Luke 10:10)

The good news of Christmas is that we do not need to live in fear and that we can find real joy. When you think of it then it is precisely this we need.

The fact that the Bible mentions 365 times ‘fear not’ indicates that the lives of many people are dominated by anxiety. Jesus explains very clearly in Matthew 6 that if we let the value of our lives to be determined by our possessions than we are bound to live in fear. On the one hand you are anxious to get more things and stuff and on the other you are afraid of losing what you have. Jesus says: don’t waste your time on these kinds of worries because in the end they do not really matter.

Many people will find this an unrealistic idea. They see it as their responsibility to have check on their lives and not to fully concentrate on this is irresponsible. But Jesus does not say that we should be careless about our responsibilities. He just says that there are more important things in life!

What the most important is in life is mentioned in the announcement of the birth of Jesus. It is simply ‘joy’. With the coming of Jesus, God gave us joy!

Christ came to show us the way to God and everyone who takes that road will receive the joy that was announced when Jesus was born.

In Luke 15 Jesus tells the story about a loving father and a lost son. Everything had gone wrong in the life of the son. Only after he had lost all his possessions he realized that he needed the joy of being with his loving father. So he took the road home to find it.

One announcement was enough for the whole world to discover a life which, instead of being dominated by anxiety, is filled with joy. It is the joy of Christmas, which cannot be improved and always is new.

Finding this joy is free for everyone who wants to travel the road to joy and anyone who does, will discover the real meaning of Christmas.

I wish you a joyful Christmas!

      --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- ----------------------------------

I wish you a joyful Christmas! Indeed!!
