My background is in environmental engineering, and most recently, international development work. My photography hopefully illustrates this interest. The website related to the water development work is at

I've always been interested in art and photography, and have found that I can broadly convey the importance of my international development work better through photography than scientific journals. This has lead to an interesting intersection blending my professional engineering work with my interest in photography.

My goal is to catch those moments that naturally make us smile. The photos I take are of real people in the real world. personally I find most studio shots a bit dull. I'm not into advertising shots, so what you see are candid moments, not posed images. That is my preference. Getting the light right with whatever is available and using the tools at hand are more important to me than "perfect" studio lighting.

I hope to document sustainable lifestyles, sustainable development and help everyone remember - we have been provided the resources for all species to live in harmony at this moment, as well as the moments yet to come.

Why do I only post small versions of the photos? I've gotten this question quite a bit. Unfortunately, I have had several photos used for purposes that I do not approve of, and needless to say, never consented to. Contact me directly if you would like to use one of my photos, high resolution files are available of most images for print or purchase, but I no longer post high res images on Flickr. Some of my older images also have what I consider to be private EXIF data, after Flickr made changes to there data. Leaving those image up means I have to make this data private - Flickr - it would be nice to allow us to pick and choose what data we feel is important and helpful for comments and which is private! Someday I'll repost these images, etc, but I can't afford to retire just yet ;^) Sorry for these inconveniences, but I've learned to beware of those who behave badly.
