Hey I’m Chini. Spiritual leader, omnipotent owner and mentor of You Are So Overrated. I started my career as an overrated art director in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After my overrated success in the advertising world, I decided I had enough and left to Europe. There I traveled around and settled in Barcelona, a beautiful and overrated city. One year later I published a photography book called Melancolia.
In Barcelona I founded Aäb an overrated arty-design group together with two friends, Nico and Agus. We put our creative focus on graphics, videos and those overrated disciplines, which you can see in overrated trendy magazines and books.
During 5 years Aäb developed different kinds of non-commercial work like videos, illustration, toy design, vjeying, workshops and a live vj set with the musician Earzumba at Sonarama (Sonar 2006). We also curated a motion graphics exhibition called Viewmaster in Maxalot Gallery (Bcn) and a lot of nonsense not worthy to mention.
My last project with Aäb was to curate and publish an illustration book called Cucciolo Encatenati.
Thereafter I started to shape up You Are So Overrated.
In the past two years I've been directing some videos for Boolab, an overrated production company in Barcelona, I've been doing live visuals for my friends Mueran Humanos, an argentinean band based in Berlin, teaching art direction in IED in Barcelona, working on my "Wonderful things happen during the short life of a fly" series, djing in a lot of places with my Overrated Soundsystem and still trying to refine my hummus recipe.
2010 found me starting an online radio with my friends Chako and Guille. The radio is called radiolabel.
Aslo I started a project with Vitor Patalano and Juan Pablo Gariglio. A trip to Ushuaia where they will record an album for a whole month, while I shoot a documentary about the experience.
So somehow for the last years I found myself flying between Barcelona, Berlin and Buenos Aires, getting involved in lots of projects in the three cities and realizing that moving a lot, interacting with different people and trying things in different disciplines all the time is an important part of my life philosophyy, what makes me happy and also makes me spend lots of money in plane tickets.
Well, now you have a pretty good idea of what You Are So Overrated is all about. If you managed to read all this crap and didn’t left to post some stupid nonsense in F'book or to watch bizarre videos in YouTube instead, I hope you like my stuff and if you want, drop me a line, send me some cash or invite me for dinner.
