The West Side Y Road Runners Club is a community running team that was started in December 2007. The group meets every Monday and Wednesday evening at 6:30, in the lobby of the West Side YMCA. There is no registration or obligation required - the group is free and trains across the street in Central Park.
We are open to both West Side YMCA members and non-members, and welcome runners of all speeds and experience levels. The group is coached by Bruno Garcia & Stacy Tarver and will train anywhere from 20 to 90 minutes on a given night. Perhaps most importantly the group is free, the people are fun, and members enjoy returning to the services and amenities of the West Side YMCA after a hard workout.
The West Side YMCA has a deep connection to the growth and status of the New York City running community. The ever-popular Achilles Track Club and New York Road Runners Club were originally West Side Y-based. It was out of the West Side YMCA that NYRR president Fred Lebow devised the New York City marathon that would be run through all five boroughs. That first year in 1976, the West Side Y Road Runners were the largest team on the starting line of the New York City Marathon with 49. The support and encouragement of the West Side YMCA have helped both the Achilles Track Club and the New York Road Runners Club gain the success and recognition they maintain today.
Come join us at 6:30 on a Monday or Wednesday night, in the lobby of the West Side Y at 5 W. 63rd St., New York, NY!
