Tracy Tanner began photographing cemeteries as her main focus in 2006. She began this journey as a labor of love and a way to sort through the death of someone she loved dearly. Surrounding herself in the resting places of those who have gone before us, she found a peace in the beauty of the mystery of those resting souls. Who were they when they were living? How did they pass into the next world? Questions she thought about while wandering the aisles daily. It was finally time, to take the photographs to share with others, the beauty of such places, and how these cemetery visits helped to heal her loss. She set out to travel the south and photograph those hidden, forgotten, grounds and capture their mystery. From Atlanta Georgia, New Orleans, Louisiana, to Selma Alabama, she has photographed and honored the memory of those who have moved on. Thank you for taking the time to look at her work and passion.
