What is photography?

For some, it’s a pursuit of the ‘perfect’ shot, a single image in an innumerable measure of pictures taken. Examples of it abound here on Flickr as there some very talented people haunt these environs.

But... much of the time, we witness only the ones where the photographer got it ‘right,’ not the mistakes, accidents or poor shots taken to arrive at that destination.

Understanding photography can be about light, lenses, and staging but, for me it is about the moment. While I do not boast of being technically proficient, I find photography to be a matter of what a day can reveal, what can be captured abruptly in a moment with simple tools.

Consequently, my stream contains as many failures (if not more) as successes. I just like recording the things I encounter of the course of an average day, if not for any other reason than to remind myself of the visceral reaction I may have had to something.

If you see something you like, leave a comment. Remember though, whether the subject be something as simple as a landscape of a serene vista to the landscape of a naked form, mind your manners. I’ve seen far too many instances of people hiding behind the internet to take kindly to vulgarity.
