The Town of Whitby Archives were established in 1968 for the Whitby Historical Society by Brian Winter. Mr. Winter has been Archivist for Whitby ever since and has written numerous books and pamphlets about Whitby's history, including the Centennial History of the Ontario Ladies' College (now Trafalgar Castle School) and tributes to retiring municipal officials.

Whitby Archives has been open to the public since 1968. The Archives collections include photographs, directories, books, trophies and other ephemera from Whitby's history.

Currently, Whitby Archives is located on the second floor of the Whitby Public Library. The Archives was formerly located in the Centennial Building.
