Photography is an artistic medium and a powerful communication tool. As a teacher and career educator, I hardly go anywhere without a camera. A photograph should tell a story, document an event and invoke emotion, uniquely from the photographer's point of view.

I became interested in photography as a freshman in college and worked as a student photojournalist throughout my undergraduate career. During that time I was an apprentice to several outstanding photographers in the Asheville area.

With the advent of digital photography, I quickly made the transition from film. This was liberating and opened the door to many new opportunities.

Thanks to all my Flickr contacts for your thoughtful comments and suggestions. Your amazing photographs have inspired me greatly.

My favorite image is the one I'll take tomorrow. I'm always looking for that perfect shot but never finding it. However, the fun is in the chase! I enjoy viewing the captures of like-minded photographers and appreciate the 'art and craft' that others bring to Flickr.

I employ a variety of photographic genres—black and white or bright and colorful, floral, nature, travel or special events--they're all exciting to me. Landscape and nature photography offer the greatest challenge and the greatest reward.

I particularly admire the work of Ansel Adams, George Masa, Vivian Maier, Hugh Morton and Herbert W. Pelton.

The camera makes little difference, although I prefer shooting single-image RAW. Good photographs capture the imagination and convey a sense of purpose and place.

I am blessed with my lovely wife of 29 years and two beautiful daughters. We enjoy exploring (and photographing) God's wonderful creation and thanking Him for His faithfulness.
