THE WESTERN SAHARA PROJECT IS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS FOR THE NOVEMBER 2010 FIELD SEASON:

Further details here.

THE PROJECT

The Western Sahara Project aims to enhance our understanding of the human past in Western Sahara through combined archaeological and environmental research. The project aims to develop cultural and environmental chronologies, and to understand how past climatic and environmental changes affected human populations throughout the Pleistocene and Holocene periods, with an emphasis on the transition from humid to arid conditions that occurred in the Middle Holocene, some 5000 years ago.

More details are available on the Project website.

THE PHOTOS

The best way of navigating the Western Sahara Project Flickr site is by starting with the collections.

Collections generally represent particular regions or locations. Within collections, sets generally represent particular sites or areas. Some collections are based on themes or field seasons.

The account is currently being overhauled (slowly and in bits, as I find time). The aim is to transform the account into a more systematic and useful database of images illustrating the archaeology of the Free Zone of Western Sahara, so that all images are organised systematically into sets representing particular sites, under collections representing specific areas or locations.
