Greetings to All!!!

Thanks for visiting my profile. My photography focuses on the history of the United States - specifically, the American Civil War. As a history professor, I wanted to find a medium beyond writing books to share my love of history. The images found here and on my website reflect the feelings, emotions, and patriotism that I see when I walk a Civil War battlefield or historic site.

In recent months, I have been involved in a number of large ad campaigns for the preservation of historic sites. My first studio and photography business, Legacy Images, is a spin-off of the success of those ad campaigns.

I specialize in Vintage-Look Images, Landscapes, and Still Life Photography. I enjoy working with layers and trying to get that "vintage look" with a contemporary feel.

I am an East Tennessee native. My family has lived in Powell’s Valley for fourteen generations. Branches of my family tree emigrated from Germany, Ireland, Scotland, and England, and moved to Tennessee, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. For my family, the Civil War was a brother against brother struggle. At Gettysburg, eight of my ancestors were killed – five Confederate and three Federal. These hallowed places mean something more to me than vacation spots.

Comments, questions, and new friends are always welcome!

"I love to look at Violet's pictures, we share a common interest in the Civil War. I can relate to her pictures the most because of the subtle colors, the placement of the soldiers in her pictures, i think, this is how i would aspire my pictures to look, however even though we have some differences in choices of how our pictures look, we have a common goal of making our pictures appeal first of all to ourselves, then to the world. Violet's pictures makes me "feel" and that is what pictures are supposed to do, a sadness, an awe, some emotion."

" I am inspired by her wonderful Civil War photography and the treatments she adds to everyday shots as well. She is truly an asset to Flickr ,both in her beautiful photography and her dedication to her group. I owe a lot of my interest in the "details" of a monument thanks to her.
    Thanks Violet!!"
