If you forced me to write down everything I had learned about photography during the past 40 years on the back of a matchbook... I would say, "notice light."
Aside from quick snaps to document something, I shoot film. I don't have a big ideological thing about that—but remember, you can buy a great film camera for about 1/40th the cost of a great digital camera. If you develop your own black & white film , it's quite inexpensive.
I'm kind of allergic to cropping. The black border around most of my shots is the blank film outside what the camera exposed.

Other stuff you might want to peek at: friends, pinhole photography, musicians, black & white, shots from a modified Brownie, architecture, scenes from my town, old photos from the archives, messing with polaroids, some of my peculiar photographic apparatus, and my sets about fire and strange car wheels...
