Been hooked on Photography since 1987 when I bought my first Canon EOS camera (650 and 620) after having used an Olympus compact zoom for a while. Have been shooting miles of film, of which I processed and printed B&W film myself. I used Ilford HP4, HP5 and later T-max 100 and 400) and printed them off on Ilford Multigrade, both on PE and proper (real) paper until I packed up my darkroom to move abroad in 2001. Bought Fuji HG 200 and 400 in bulk for wedding Photography and other documentary and private Photography.

In the early days my photography, that has always been a passion, has more or less paid for itself. These days it has developed into a small little business. Working digital now means that I am saving a lot on film and processing costs but this now tends to be spend on body's, memory cards, computers and software...

Like many keen photographers, I was what they call in marketing terms, a 'late adopter' as far as digital is concerned. I used to order a Kodak Picture CD together with the prints and went on from there. I have used a Rebel/300D for a couple of years to full satisfaction, but missed the perspective of 'full frame' and independent settings of my 620. My current 5D (I/II) solves all that and more or less feels like the 'olden days'. The 300D's autofocus mirror failed early 2008 and instead of having it repaired I bought a 400D as a family camera.

My personal development as a photographer stood still for a few years, but is enjoying a strong revival. I've rarely used Photoshop and when I did, it was only for the very basic features. This was part fear of the unknown, as well as a great believe in pure and honest Photography, the way it was meant to be. I was really stunned with the effects of the B&W settings of the 5D. It includes the classic B&W filters as well. This enables me to create the pictures I was used to take. In May 2008 I started trialling the new Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 1.4 as a RAW converter and B&W developer because I miss the control I used to have in the darkroom over highlight, shadows, tones and contrast. So far, it looks like it is actually better than that smelly dark room. The current update Lightroom 3.4 is even better and I am now also using the latest CS5. I run a small studio in the east of the country and this is growing fast .
