Victor Keller

Born in Minneapolis (1973) Victor Keller began his interest in photography in high school when he acquired a Pentax K1000 camera and slipped into the University of Minnesota darkroom facility unnoticed and taught himself how to process and print his own work. He began to explore photography in his free time while earning a degree in biochemistry and later a doctoral degree from the University of Minneosta (2001). Over the next several years he became disillusioned with the transition of digital technology in photography and nearly abandoned photography altogether - until a chance encounter in 2009 with local fine-arts photographer, Osama Esid, which was very important. In Esid’s studio Victor spent many hours realizing the importance of apprenticeship as well as a strong and enduring friendship and collaboration.

At the moment Victor Keller is developing several original projects revolving around historical documentary and fine-art styles. Recently he is collaborating with business leaders to document the Minneapolis Longfellow neighborhood. He is also doing a multi-year social documentary project concerned with the Northeast African country, Eritrea. Another ongoing project revisits and updates Richard Avedon’s American West Series by re-tracing many of the same towns and subjects but reflecting contemporary economic and social conditions.
