Love food and have been vegetarian for decades. The buddy icon is a snap of my Cordon Vert apron from the cookery school at Vegetarian Society in Altrincham, Manchester.
I'm interested in the history and development of dietary habits, the reasons people choose to restrict their diets, how it relates to other areas of their culture and the assumptions made about what it will do for the person.
If you wonder about the number of boring food pictures on my stream I'll explain. You've probably heard of food journals where the idea is that you write down everything you ate for the day. You can pass it to your nutritionalist/personal trainer/best friend and have them monitor how much chocolate icecream you eat. What I'm doing is a bit snappier than that - and has been demonstrated to be more effective in monitoring intake. I take a picture of everything I eat, before I eat it. That means I have to take a step back before anything goes in my mouth, which gives a little more time to think about whether I am really hungry or really want to eat it ...not much difference in my book.... and gives a far more powerful record to look back on and gasp at how much toast/wine/cheese/chocolate I've eaten in the last week. I've also built a small app that pulls out pics from Flickr and lays them out by time so I can see patterns of when I eat (erratically) which in theory should also help lose those final few kilos. (unfortunately food journal has hiccups at moment, when it is cured I'll put the link here)
