"Do I contradict myself? Very well then, I contradict myself. I am large, I contain multitudes."

Whitman got that right. It's far more interesting to be genuine and real and a little bit out there than to be constantly worried about presenting "a consistent, steady, image of one's self."

I'm a dabbler -- I like to know a little bit about a lot of things, which means that in many cases I enthusiastically introduce a topic of conversation, then have to sit back while others discuss the meat of the issue. It's a great way to learn and engage, but can make me seem more quiet and shy than I truly am.

Being a dabbler, my interests can shift quickly; today's obsession might seem to be the stuff of tomorrow's recycling bin, but I rarely toss that which truly interests and intrigues and rewards me.

I love beautiful things -- words, music, photographs, art, the play of sunlight on the needles of the pine tree outside my window, the sploshing of fat, sizzling rain drops on hot concrete, a reposing cat's curled front paw.

I adore my job, and tend to talk about work a great deal. I won't do that here. But because of my fabulous, down-to-earth, super-helpful-to-people job, I'm moving to New York City on July 1, 2009. I'm excited about the move, although I have some trepidations. Once I find an apartment in the West Village, my top priority will be finding a cafe with groovy ambiance, friendly barristas, and the best chai latte around.
