Patrice Campana says:
"J'aime la vie dans ces photos, celle du travail, des enfants et des personnages, les couleurs du noir et du blanc, les visages absorbés des gens qui s'y promènent. J'aime la sensibilité qui se dégage."

"Utoutokumasan is a unique recorder of history. I have come to greater levels of understanding about his family, his people and his culture. I am happy to count Utoutokumasan as a friend and I am so glad that he also counts me as a friend. Our peoples fought a great war that his father remembered well and that I remember. It was an intense struggle. People suffered terribly in both of our countries, and yet today we can count each other as friends.
In 1945, I was in Europe and was scheduled to be an Able Seaman on a Victory Ship going to Manila Harbor to be anchored for a long time as a floating warehouse for supplies coming in from other ships. I was deathly afraid that I would be killed by a Mitsubishi Kamakazi flight.
Today I drive a Mitsubishi sports coupe and have Utoutokumasan a friend. Isn't it amazing how the world has a way of healing itself?
I bow in respect and greeting dear friend and again thank you deeply for the wonderful Flickrsite you have created which has brought deep understanding and some tears to me over this past year."6th August, 2007

"Here you will find the real world, seen through real eyes and presented in a dusky, moody black and white that is unmistakably the style of one, single, remarkable photographer. This work inspires me, and hopefully it will also inspire you."

aurelio.asiain says:
"utoutokumasan is a photographer. Most people around here (including me) are editors: what we can see is the result of cutting, cropping, processing images and, in the end, redesigning reality. utoutokumasan (dozing bear?) is a photographer: he has a passion for seeing, finding and showing up his treasures: real life, naked reality, a really strange thing to see in photography, and one full of dreams. He has an eye."

"I don't know anything about this person named utoutokumasan (his profile gives no personal information), but I do know that he is one of the very best photographers I've seen on Flickr, plain and simple. There is nothing phony about his shots...just stark and powerful images of Real Life. He has a great eye and his images are always visually interesting as well as offering interesting content and food for thought. If I knew more about technique I could better describe what he does with the camera, but it's best to just have a look for yourself. I know you won't be sorry you did."

Pittam says:
"Utoutokumasan produces images of normality, power and emotions. These images bring out the caring human in us all, Utoutokumasan is a person with an amazing eye for things that we all take for granted, for things that we ignore because we have seen them all before, images that we do not want to acknowledge exist but there they are in black and white and larger than life.
Even though I do not know Utoutokumasan, I hope that one day I get to meet him and be able to shake his hand and say 'Thank You'. For now this is the best I can do."10th July, 2006

"I'm honored to be the first person to write a testimonial for utoutokumasan. His photos are simple beautiful and yet powerful all at the same time. He captures the most mundane moment in life but yet down to the most detail in every single shot. He is definitely one of the best street photographer around. Congrats!"
