This December, the world will meet in Copenhagen, Denmark to forge a new international protocol to deal with climate change. This new treaty will replace the Kyoto Protocol, which expires in 2012 and will map out our common climate future. The outcome is of particular importance as average global temperatures are rising at an increasing rate and scientists say that significant reductions are required by 2020 to avoid reaching critical climatic tipping points.
A delegation from U of T was selected to participate at the negotiations. Part of their role in advance of the negotiations is to engage the U of T community and Canadians on climate change. As young people this is extremely important because we will be living in a changed world. Our ingenuity is the key to a sustainable, restorative economy.
Events are planned throughout November to raise awareness about climate change, the negotiations and to allow voices to be heard by our decision makers.
We invite you to take some time to look around our website, learn more about COP 15 and what you can do to have your voice heard, and find out about upcoming events.
