The urdu-speaking community in Bangladesh became stateless in their own country in the aftermath of the 1971 war in which they were associated with collaboration with Pakistan. They have languished in camps in Bangladesh for over three decades. The supreme court in Bangladesh took a decision in 2008 to reaffirm the citizenship status of this hapless community. The landmark decision brought Bangladesh a step closer to becoming an inclusive society.
