Created from the glowing embers of the Tokyo New Wave scene, Umibachi was formed in spring of 2004 by members of erstwhile scene-shakers Chicago Bass. In October of the the same year, they laid down the foundation of their new sound in 'No School', a full-length album that underscored their commitment to psychedelic pop wrapped in dancefloor-friendly rhythms. After solidifying the current lineup in 2006, Umibachi made bold moves to rekindle the New Wave scene with a fresh approach, meshing many of the sounds from the vast Tokyo scene with their own diverse influences. The resulting sound can be heard on their latest release, 'Body Conscious & Joystick', a work that captures the original spirit of the New Wave sound—irresistible freak-pop-danceability, minimally psychedelic, and totally unique in its execution.
