Hi all!
I love Flickr! I think that it has become a very strong online community – and that’s a good reason for keeping it going so well and getting better and better. Since day one, Flickr among other Web 2.0 sites, made the web experience more alive than ever.
I can recall my decision, about one and a half year ago, to start publishing works of mine here at Flickr. Since then, this page has transformed day by day into that kind of websites that are very “personal” and in some way unique for me.
Who I am, how do I live
Well, allow me to tell you a couple of things about me:
My name is Charis Tsevis and I am a visual designer, living and working at Athens, Greece. I run my own studio under the name “Tsevis Visual Design” with my beloved wife Eva and our colleagues both for domestic or foreign projects.
UPDATE:
Since April 1st, 2008 I am working for Adobe Systems. I am the Channel Manager for the Mediterranean region. This is real fun as Adobe occupies the center of the creative software industry.
What we do mostly is providing our creative services at the publishing and editorial industry and at the same time, we enjoy being active in illustration and multimedia. I could say that we are specializing in book and brochure design. My wife and me both love fiction and non-fiction and that giving us the ability to successfully meet the needs of our clients, trying to deliver the best we can to support any product or service of them.
A c a d e m i c s :
The journey of studying visual communication started at my hometown, Athens (Greece). There I had my first courses at the “German College of Graphics and Advertising” where I acquired a Diploma of Graphic Design.
My next station was in Milan, Italy, where I spend some time at the “Scuola Politecnica di Design” earning a Master in Visual Design.
It didn’t get too long for me to realize that I really love education, so sometimes I wonder my self: “Is it because I wasn't one of the best student in elementary or high school?” Maybe… but the story changed as I entered the SPD in Milan, where I found teachers like Nino Di Salvatore or Augusto Garau, who inspired me so much.
During my “Italian” years I was devoted to the study of Gestalt psychology and design following the thoughts of Bruno Munari, Gaetano Kanitza, Rudolf Arnheim, Gyorgy Kepes and of course my professors.
After returning to Greece I took the decision to dedicate a couple of days -every single week- to education. At 1993 I had my first own presentation and seminars at “Panteion University of Athens”, about the Gestalt theory. Next year, I organized the course of Visual Perception and Communication at the “Intergraphics College of Athens”.
Since 1996, I am a member of the faculty of the “Akto College of Art and design”, which is the largest and most respected Arts College in Greece. There, I have been teaching as a professor of Typography and Editorial Design, since the beginning of the Academic year 1996-1997. I also had the honor of serving as the Vice President of the Graphic Design Department for the academic years 2003-2004 and 2004-2005.
I have presented numerous speeches and seminars for many institutions and organizations including the “University of Macedonia” in Thessaloniki, the “Marketing Week” magazine, the “+design” magazine, the “AKTO College of Art & Design”, the “Hellenic Design Institute”, the “Anodos SA” etc.
W r i t i n g :
I strongly believe that creativity is an equilibrated relation between theory and practice. So I love to study and to publish. I am working as a regular columnist for “RAM Magazine” – the best selling computer magazine in Greece - mostly covering computer history and culture issues.
During the past decade, I have also written articles about design, aesthetics and culture, which have been published by various Greek and international publications and portals, such as "Adobe Magazine" "+design", "RAM Cyprus", "In.gr", "Grafistas & Web Design", "Macland", “To Vima".
B o o k s :
My first book was published back in 2004 by “Lambrakis Press” and had the title (in Greek) “To Photoshop gia olous” wich means “Photoshop for everyone”. That book made 2 editions, sold more than 100.000 copies in Greece and it's by far the absolute bestseller book for Adobe Photoshop in my country.
Recently, I finished my second book titled “Adobe Photoshop CS3” published again by “Lambrakis Press”, slpited in two volumes of 316 pages each one. Even though I am not sure, I think this is the first book worldwide for the newest version of Adobe Photoshop or at least one of the very first.
S o c i a l i z i n g :
I am belonging to the minority who still appreciates politics. We may live difficult times with no exceptional ideologies, genius leaders or great theories but I deeply believe that this is going to change.
I think that politics - NOT the contemporary politicians - is the highest art and science. So I am trying to be part of groups, companies and initiatives.
I have been a founding member of VCDC-Greece (Visual Communication Designers' Club). www.vcdc.gr VCDC is a non-profit organization, trying to establish an open meeting place for the Greeks -and not only- creative people.
P r o f e s s i o n a l A s s o c i a t i o n s :
I am a full member of AtypI -Association Typographique International- even though I am more a reader than a writer, enjoying very much to follow the writings of Elen Lupton or Massimo Vignelli.

I am also a proud member of Parachute Type and Image Corporation , which distributes the typefaces I designed during last years. Panos Vasileiou -founder of Parachute and typeface designer- is a person I really admire.
If you are reading this I guess that you are a very kind and patient Flickr user. So, let me thank you for your visit and your interest. If you have any question, please don't hesitate! Just drop a line. I am always answering e-mails, even though I am not promising to reply immediately.
Best greetings!
Charis Tsevis
If it doesn’t seems Greek to you, you could pay a visit at my weblog.

"I originally met Charis on an online forum-flaming-war about MACs and PCs. At a certain point I became his sworn forum enemy!
All that changed however, at the point we started a personal conversation and later on we met on several occasions.
It was at this point that I realised one extremely important point about his character:
If you strip Charis from his multi-talented Homo Universalis persona, above and beyond all, he is a true friend and a passionate man.
He is the one that will support his friends, stand on his beliefs and will never pretend of being someone else, for publicity's sake.
Even now that he is known worldwide!
We are friends because he is simply Charis.
Nothing more, nothing else.
PS: Now I have one imac and two PCs and running all three OSes known to man. But I earn most of my daily bread from the mac.
Thanks to him"2nd February, 2009

"Charis is a truly fearless artist. He dares to go the extra experimental mile where others rest within their perceived and false safety. He always attempts to be in touch with the zeitgeist of our era, that is now seemingly changing so fast, while the core remains eternally the same."

"Since much has been said about his artistic ability and skills, I wanted to comment about Charis on a different level. Though I know him only through our interaction here on Flickr, I believe that Charis has a warm soul and is a very kind hearted man. His comments always make me smile and feel good about myself, and that is a very beautiful thing. He always seems willing and able to notice the deep sentimental value of art, and is very gracious upon receiving compliments. He clearly puts thought into most every comment he makes, something that is generally rare in this large community. As a member of the flickr community Charis Tsevis deserves a big Bravo!"

"Charis Tsevis is a person who's willing each and every moment of this vague life to push creativity and innovation to their limits just to teach the rest of us that life is not as vague as we are used to see it. He is able at anytime to turn upside down and inside out our whole view on this human world and its creations with just some clicks of his mouse!"
