This year’s HDR workshops have been and gone, and I have promised myself that I’ll politely decline if they ask me to do it again next year. I’ve had to concentrate more on HDR than I really wanted in the last two years because of the workshops, so I’ll be pleased to pull back and put it into perspective now. I still enjoy the learning experience, and that took a respectable step forward after finding Farbspiel’s flickr page . He has to be the best user of HDR on the planet!

Apart from the hassle of organising the workshops, it also meant I missed out on the workshops that were held on the same day as mine. It’s worked out OK though as the one I’d have gone to was Bret Lucas’s lighting workshop, but Bret is coming to Nelson in July to run a two day intensive lighting workshop . Perhaps I’ll learn how to use the Sekonic 758DR that gathers dust in my gear cupboard.




I am a retired engineer, now working as a commercial photographer, living in New Zealand. Married to Chris.

My card says 'Community Volunteer & Photographer', and I work in the local Community with organisations like Citizens Advice (Chairman), Volunteer Marlborough (vice chair) and previously with COGS (a Government run funding organisation) and as a board member of the Marlborough Community Law Center. But mostly I support local Community and not-for-profit groups and organisations with a free photographic service.

My everyday photography is photojournalistic in nature, but I belong to the Marlborough Camera Club (President). I also edit the Camera Club Newsletter We have more than 80 members, which is none too bad for town with a population of less than thirty thousand.
