I have been shooting since I was a kid. I owned a Brownie and bought my first Nikon SLR when I was in the Navy . Over time, I bought some mediocre lenses and shot maybe 10 rolls a year.

Then came the Christmas present of a Nikon Coolpix about 10 years ago. My world was changed! Not only could I shoot but I could manipulate. I was going down the slippery slope. First came Photoshop Album, then Photoshop, then a new point n shoot camera with more pixels and then a DSLR...and then another one!.

I will not bore you with my photo addiction. I will just say that I have been on a number of week-long workshops and week-long informal photographic treks; I switched religions (went to Canon); am now on my 6th camera ( the Canon 5D ii); have started my own company (northshoredigitalphotography.com) and I shoot about 15-20,000 exposures a year. I am finally geetong commercial assignments and my work is going up in 2 galleries.

I suspect my shooting philosophy is somewhat unique. My first desire is good composition and mechanics through the camera. I weight this equally with post production to allow my viewer to see what I saw and felt when I took the image.

The place I shoot most often is the Chicago Botanic Garden. Between our weather and the dynamics of the plants, the palette changes every day.I am very fortunate.

I live outside of Chicago and sea kayak, garden, hike and ski. In Chicago, the weather almost permits me to do that all in one day!

I ask for all your comments, positive and negative, since I am on a path that requires your help. I have my own muse, she is very good.....but she has a way of disappearing when I need her most. By the way, I am not real good at returning all my messages.

PS That is a shot of me in the kayak.
