philly sunrise

the gray morning seeps through the dim windows
as the sounds of the city grate upon the misty fog
awakening the warm flesh to bodily functions
cold feet move in a slow stupor down the steps
finding the button to make hot liquid dull the pain
another day sleep walking our way into certain hell



red rains of oblivion

lightning rips tears the dull blue curtain of sky
with a white booming crashing flash
rain leaps from the evil clouds emptying
their heaviness with a rhythm of musical sound
water dirty with the residue and blood of the city
rolls toward the rusting grate of escape
tunneling under the hot and cooling asphalt
disgorging in a plume of filthy foam into the
swirling raging angry muddy river
riding the bits of discarded humanity
into the sea carrying a sodden bit of life
that was once loved to a watery grave
