Walter Nomura a.k.a. Tinho's photostream  

The artist Walter Nomura, a.k.a. Tinho, one of the Brazilian graffiti pioneers and punk skater, develops in his art a singular painting, where the accumulation of information mixed with his graffiti style and added to the skate/punk influence shows a contemporaneous world full of violence, loneliness and suffering. These elements are often found in big cities such as São Paulo, Tokyo, Yokohama, Santiago,Buenos Aires,Berlin, Grenoble, Brighton and London, places where he has been to in distinct situations.
Tinho started skating by the age of 9 in 1979 and scribbled on his first walls when he was 13 years old in 1986. Since then he started to see the world with different eyes, living in the underground world together with punks and skaters, adopted a politic view about everything around him, which has motivated him to express his art in a great variety of substrates, mainly in the walls of the cities he has visited.
From 1991, when he was 18 years old, he started developing designs for T-shirt printing and logos for the most expressive Brazilian skateboard brands, work to which he is dedicated until today.
Since 1994, as he went to a Faculty of Arts, he has been incorporating all concepts of the Contemporaneous Art to his work, as well as getting in touch with the work of artists from all over the world, regardless of the modality.
His graffiti work granted him several invitations to work in Buenos Aires and Pinamar (Argentine) and Santiago (Chile), his first international experiences. Tinho has also lived in Japan for three years, where he could absorb the culture of his grandparents.
Back to Brazil in 2004, Tinho faced a hectic scene and used it as a propitious environment to further develop his work with skateboard brands and to establish himself as a top artist in the main Art Galleries of São Paulo.
After it Tinho were invited to do a big project in Berlin to the 2006 FIFA’s World Cup sponsored by Nike and to exhibit your works at the Spacejunk Gallery in Grenoble – France.
