I think you can know a lot about a person by the pictures they make. I mean, if they're good pictures. I shoot with a first edition Epson 3000z with 3.3 mega pixels. It is one of the oldest digital cameras and doesn't have many features, which is what I like about it. It's built like a truck and I don't believe they're sold anymore. If anything goes wrong, I don't know how to fix it. But so far, nothing, nothing has ever gone wrong. It'll probably shatter on the way home today. The invitation to edit my profile was to tell more or less about myself. Truth is, I don't know much about myself. When my son was about six, he wrote this: " I want to help people. I hope I make it. I am cool." I guess that sort of says who I want to be, but I feel a long way from "cool".
Back to making pictures, I only take one shot of everything. It's both a discipline and desire. When I take a picture, it's either right or wrong. Like Eggleston said, "I only take one because if I take more than one I can never tell which one is best." I don't think he was being arrogant. I believe he was just acknowledging the fact that editing is hard. May be the hardest part for me. Sometimes I feel like every thing I've shot is every thing I want to shoot. Lazy, no ambition, phony artist. All I have is a camera, and even it lies to me. I quit painting to shoot. I quit writing to shoot. Interestingly, I've found that I shoot like I write and paint. It's just easier I suppose.
