Béla Borroso ist das Pseudonym von Thorsten Jankowski.

Im Laufe der letzten 3 Jahre habe ich mir einen Bereich erarbeitet, den ich "Skulpturaler Akt" nenne. Vorbilder sind für diesen Bereich weniger aktuelle Fotografen, als mehr klassische Bildhauer wie Auguste Rodin. Es gibt natürlich in diesem Bereich einige hervorragende Fotografen, deren Arbeiten ich sehr schätze.

Für zukünftige Projekte suche ich Modelle, die einen tänzerischen/turnerischen Background haben, oder die auf andere Weise eine perfekte Körpersprache und -beherrschung mitbringen. Ich arbeite laufend an möglichen Ausstellungsthemen, Buch- und Kalenderprojekten und anderen Publikationen.

I have never had the pleasure of meeting Thorsten Jankowski face-to-face. I first became aware of his photography through the Flickr.com website. In fact, it was Thor who contacted me about my work back in June 2006. At first, I was wary, Flickr is a great site, but its popularity as a photo sharing web site has meant that is has become populated by a number of people who are simply there to look at 'dirty pictures'. Being a nude art and fetish photographer myself, I tend to get more than my fair share of 'friend' requests from these type of people, so normally, I do not take much notice when someone contacts me on Flickr. However, when Thor contacted me, I decided to click on his portfolio. What I discovered was a terrific collection of fine art nudes.

Thor's images are engaging and mysterious. He carefully uses light to create a mood of softness that is carefully balanced with models who appear posed as perfectly crafted sculptures. As a former graphic designer, his images appeal to me as graphic works as well, there is a simplicity in his work that brings the viewer into the image on a direct but intimate level, as if every detail was considered and designed to grab your immediate attention. Looking through Thor's work, I found myself wishing that I had taken these photos, I was very jealous in fact. This was my introduction to Thorsten Jankowski's photography.

As a photographer, it is always difficult to write or talk about another photographer's work. In Thor's case, this is not a problem. Thor's work immediately stands out, not only because he has such a distinctive style from image to image, but also because you find yourself drawn into his world. You get to see things from his point of view, and in this way, you get a sense of who Thorsten Jankowski really is as an artist. You see that he is deliberate, that he considers no detail too small, that he is a perfectionist on every level, and that he makes the very most of the very least.

Over the past year, Thorsten and I have kept in touch, both through the Flickr.com and Model-Kartei.de web sites. We have both worked with some of the same models, and we keep track of each other's work through our online portfolios, sharing comments from time to time. I have had the pleasure of watching Thor's work develop over the past year and what I see in this calendar of nudes is some of his best work yet. Here you have all the necessary elements of fine art nude photography: exquisite models, sensitive lighting, terrific form and perfect composition. I am sure, this is only the beginning.

Whatever the future may hold for Thorsten Jankowski, I know that I will continue to watch this artist develop, and perhaps, some day, we'll meet for a coffee and have a long talk about it.
