Some say, "... go into the light." Others say, "... stay out of the light." Me? I'm just out on the Harley lookin' for it. ~db~

"Taking a photograph in natural light is the act of converting a photon after its having traveled nearly 100 million miles and bouncing off of something that poked at your soul sufficient for you to pull out your camera. Using artificial light starts out much the same, but the photons were stored for a couple of billion years before they completed the journey to your sensor." ~db~

Bio

Were I to encapsulate me as a person, I would use these words:
- Devoted
- Renaissance
- Eclectic
- Inquisitive
- Mildly Deviant
- Tolerant
- Patient
- Intelligent
- Integrity

My heroes are:
- Leonardo daVinci
- Benjamin Franklin
- Albert Einstein
- Ansel Adams
- Diane Arbus
- Edward Weston
- M. C. Escher
- Salvador Dali
- Eric Clapton
- Eric Johnson
- Jimi Hendrix
- Mrs. Bailey [all three of them]
- Mr. Bailey [my dad]

My "personal specs" are:
Married [nearly 30 years to one of the Mrs. Bailey's above], born in 1954, native Californian transplanted to Colorado in 1999, three kids [two daughters and a son], 5' 10", blue eyes, salt and pepper hair [that is still there, who cares what color!], works for an accounting software development company [after a long string of other extremely diverse roles], and spend my spare time perusing my hobbies of loving my wife & kids, waxing endlessly philosophical, collecting movies, taking photographs and riding my 2007 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail Classic.

My "technical specs" regarding photography are:
I’ve been using a camera as a tool for art since about 1963. I began using a small format, soundless movie camera to create stop motion animation when I was about 9 or 10 years old. I was given my first still camera about the same time. It was a Polaroid Swinger that captured small [1 1/2" X 2 1/2" approx.] black and white images. I bought my first 35mm SLR while in the Air Force back in 1972. It was a Miranda with a removable penta-prizm. I can’t recall the model. In the early 80s I moved to a Minolta 7000i and stayed with that until the late 90s when I began using a small, very low quality digital camera from Intel. In spite of the poor images, I was hooked on digital and bought a Fuji FinePix in the early 2000s that had a sensor resolution of about 3.5MP. Some of the images from that camera are still posted on this stream. The Fuji was my primary camera for about 3 or 4 years when I finally made the leap to a dSLR from Konica-Minolta, a model 5D, and a Canon S2IS for back-up. I am now looking to upgrade to something on the pro level, Canon 60D would be nice! Send cash!

Why Art? Because I have to [call it air for the soul]!

Why Nudes? Because I can [God bless a man who's wife and friends will take their clothes off and let him take photos]!

Just so ya know...
- All my stuff is available in high resolution if you're a flickr member. I have a great appreciation for those of you who do the same. For those of you who do not do the same: "really?" You're worried about someone printing out or publishing your photo? So, you sell of lot of work, do you? Just sayin'

- Groups are great places to share, and I appreciate all of the invites ... truly. But just understand that I don't have a ton of time to invest in "post one, favorite two" kinda groups, and I have no interest at all in groups where I have to wait for the admin to "approve" my post. I understand all the reasons, so save your breath. Invites of photos to private groups where I have to be a member to see the photo I just posted will be ignored as well. I'm an old codger, have made up my mind and pretty much set in my ways. Sorry.

- I am easy going, free spirited, uber tolerant and have a keen interest in motorcycles, photography, art, history, music and culture. I appreciate open minded, friendly people who have a thirst for knowledge, understanding and all things creative. I have little patience for intolerant people; those who judge ignorantly; are mean spirited, self centered, uncaring, loud, impolite, greedy, narrow minded lemmings.

- I'd like to ask all of those who post stuff on their streams and profiles like: "If this is your icon, I will block you!" Or, "Do not favorite my photos or I will block you!" ... to just go ahead and block me now .... please. I'm pretty sure if this is you, you either fit into one or some combination/ variation thereof, of the groups that are in my "I have little patience for ... " diatribe directly above. Let's just save us both some pain and get it done as soon as possible, if you please. Thanks! :)

Fine Art & Other Nudes
Just about everything that is remotly sexy, naked, or even implied is non-public [with a few exceptions]. So, if you would like access to the fine art nudes and other stuff posted in the Plain Brown Wrapper or other sets, send me an email specifically asking for access, don't just add me as friend and/or family [those usually just get ignored or only set to contact if you have work I'm interested in]. I'll look at your profile. All nude models are well over 21. You'll need to set your flickr preferences to Safe Search: Off. Here's the URL: www.flickr.com/account/prefs/safesearch/?from=privacy

My Explored Work

Every minute, 5000 or more images are uploaded to flickr. That's about 7 million photos a day. The engineers at flickr have a process that chooses 500 images for any given day, to be included in something called "Explore". About .007% of the total images for the day make the cut. The above represents work I have produced that at one point or another was deemed worthy enough to make, "Explore." Sorry for the grievous self promotion. I am ashamed … :)

"Don's photographs are a pleasure to view. He expertly captures the beauty and vibrancy of every subject he shares with us. The way he artistically presents scenes of nature are like a conducter directing a wonderful musical piece. I enjoy his work and am glad to view each new photo as it appears on Flickr."
