Niki received much of his formal theater training as a Theater Arts Major in the Fine Arts Program at the Ateneo de Manila. His journey into theatrical design began while doing production work for Tanghalang Ateneo, helping execute the designs of National Artist Salvador Bernal, his first design mentor. His production design credits for the stage include "Filipinescas: Philippine Life, Legend, & Lore in Dance", "Duyan ng Kagitingan", "Pangarap sa Isang Gabi ng Gitnang Tag-araw", "Once On This Island", "Once Upon A Mattress", Repertory Philippines Children's Theater's MULAN, Theater Down South's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" [where he was last seen playing Theseus and Oberon], and most recently "Rapunzel" and "Treasure Island". For network television, Niki worked as an illustrator and production design developer under Peque Gallaga for GMA-7's "SUGO".
