Barry FC ('The Linnets') were formed in the late Spring of 2005 by supporters of Welsh League side Barry Town.

Barry Town itself began life back in 1912 as simply 'Barry AFC'. The nickname of The Linnets stuck with the team until the mid-1990s when it was changed to The Dragons.

Playing much of its history as part of the English Southern League, Barry (Town) finally found the pot of gold in the Welsh league system, dominating it for much of the late 90s and early 00s.

Success came in the form of domestic Cups, Championships and recording often envious results in Europe (Barry Town 3 FC Porto 1, anybody?!). In 2003 the bubble burst. The debts caught up with the Club and it was within hours of dying when a new owner appeared.

Unable to stop the rot, the Club was relegated for one of only a few times in its long history. In 2004, due to lack of rate payments, Barry Town was turfed out of its Jenner Park home for the first time since 1913.

Relations between the Club and some of its fans broke down to such an extent that a true Supporters' Club was established; 'Barry FC', and would begin life at the very bottom - local parks football. In honour to its heritage, the Club re-claimed the 'Linnets' nickname as its own.

In a twist of irony, and not a little hard work, Barry FC was granted the hallowed turf of Jenner Park for the 2005-06 season by the local Council.

Barry Town still exists of course, in the Welsh League Division One, but without a portion of its most devoted, besotted fan-base.

Welcome to The Linnets.
