The Gassens take photos of Wisconsin farm scenes, rural landscapes, flowers, and Madison landmarks. Most of their work is framed in hand-made barnboard frames using reclaimed materials, and have a rustic feel to them. They also repurpose other materials, like windows, to frame some of their work. Rich and Joan also offer a variety of handmade greeting cards & matted prints.

Joan was raised on a farm just west of Middleton, and her passion for country life is captured in her photos as she tries to document the vanishing small family farms of Dane County. She also has a green thumb, with gardens full of all types of flowers, supplying endless subject matter for the camera lens.

Rich has lived in Madison and Middleton all of his life, and along with his interest in barns and rural landscapes, he is also drawn to Madison area landmarks like the state capitol, lakes and UW campus.

Together the Gassens offer a unique view of the Dane County area and its many interesting features.
