The Concilio is a non-profit, community-based organization that was established in 1981 in order to enhance the quality of life for Hispanics in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In its early years, The Concilio served as an umbrella organization for other nonprofits seeking to serve an emerging and rapidly growing Hispanic population in the North Texas region. During that time, The Concilio was instrumental in helping these entities understand and meet the needs of the Hispanic community.
Our mission is to build stronger communities by empowering parents to improve the education and health of their families. The Concilio fulfills its mission by addressing two areas - health and education - where there is a need for significant improvement within the Hispanic community. Today, The Concilio is one of very few organizations in Texas that works to increase parent involvement in their children’s education. The Concilio serves more than 10,000 unduplicated individuals each year through its
Community Health and Parents Advocating for Student Excellence (PASE) programs.
In Community Health, we focus on diabetes awareness, nutrition and wellness, physical activity and resources for the uninsured. Our PASE program teaches parents how to positively impact their child’s education by being actively engaged. Both programs serve the Greater Dallas area.
Our partnerships have prospered because we are recognized for our ability to connect with and gain the trust of the Hispanic community. Through our partnerships we not only connect families with additional services, we facilitate continued access of these services. We work with low-income Hispanic families, but our programs are open to everyone regardless of race or income level.
