Welcome to The Broken Plate
This venture started while cleaning up left over scraps from my mosaic mailbox. I had plenty of interesting pieces of a vintage plate lying around that I could not bear to toss, so I wrapped one in solder and made a pendant. Before I knew it, I was buying and breaking plates everyday, becoming more and more addicted to the process. I opened my Etsy store in late August in hopes of finding an audience that will help support my need to break plates.

The Process
Each plate is carefully selected from various thrift stores, antique shops, and department stores, and then lovingly broken, using a hammer and tile snips. Pieces are selected by color, design and shape, ground to create smooth edges, and wrapped in copper tape and lead-free silver solder using the Louis Comfort Tiffany stained glass method. The solder is patinaed to give each piece a bold, rustic black border.
