American-born graduate student living in Canadia and dreaming of balmier climes.

Photography is something I think of as both a leisure activity and a way to participate in the art history that I study. Once upon a time (back in the age of 35mm film) I took it very seriously, but then went years without even owning a camera. I've been slowly progressing up the gear food-chain, from an ultracompact Elph (2003-08, R.I.P.) to a Canon S5iS, to a recently acquired Olympus E-420 and small stable of Zuiko Digital lenses.

Taking pictures of places and things has always been my strong suit, so I'm also looking to learn and grow as a portait and people photographer. Most of my contact adds are people I've stumbled across whose portrait work engages, encourages, or perplexes me - advice and insight are more than welcome... In the few months I've been actively using flickr, I've been overwhelmed by the amount of excellent work that's being posted on a daily basis. Thanks to everybody who has sent comments, hints, and suggestions.

And, while I hate to be harsh or anti-social, block-faced folks and people with no public pictures or profile info will be blocked if they fave or leave less-than-substantive comments. There's an anxiety that goes along with putting your photos online for the world to see and perhaps swipe, and I realize there's not much that I can do to counter the negative possibilities or control who views my stream but if you're not willing to put a little bit of yourself out there, I'd prefer that you not collect or criticize my images.
