I've been taking photos for more decades than I'm willing to admit but I'm a work in progress, so my favorite photo is the one I've yet to take. I love to explore and experiment with new ways to bend light.

I am currently a graphic artist and a publisher [Babbage Press] ... A long time ago, I studied photography & film, wrote a bunch of animation, and owned a fabulous science fiction bookstore called Dangerous Visions (1981-2002) -- which I miss to this day.

"I've know Lydia for years and she's one of the most talented people I know. She has a great eye for composition and her Photoshop work is breathtaking. (If you haven't looked through her Bending Light set you're in for a treat.)

She's also incredibly generous with her time both with individual Flickrites and as an admin on a number of groups.

If you are into SF, horror or fantasy, by all means drop by Babbage Press where her artwork graces the book covers. And while you're there, help support Lydia and small presses in general by purchasing something."

"Lydia is simply one of the highest quality Artists on flickr. She is an awesome photographer and a master of digital imaging. She is extremely generous with her vast knowledge of Photoshop. I hope that she doesn't mind that I refer my Photo students to her group, Textures for Layers. What's more , she is a fellow Los Angeles resident who cares deeply for children, rain forests and people in need.
    Thank you Lydia."

"I think I first came across Lydia and her beautiful images when I joined a texture group in mid 2007, but in the intervening time I have gotten to know her well through the groups we co-admin and she has become a close friend. Each of her images whether her gorgeous artworks or straight photos are deep, well thought out masterpieces full of little details which surprise, I wish I had a tiny amount of her imagination and skill. As well as creating wonderful images she somehow finds the time to help run some of the best groups on flickr!!

Anyway thanks Lydia for being such a wonderfully supportive friend and colleague. Keep up the good work and keep inspiring me.
    Hugs

"Lydia's a dynamo, which comes across in her illustrated works - layers seemingly in the hundreds, yet with a total clarity of purpose and expression. That's takes work and concentration. But wins the Man Ray competitions on a regular basis... and makes for some excellently produced books.

Everyone really ought to go over to Babbage press. I've bought a few of the books Lydia publishes, and they are quality productions. Hefty, good paper, and Lydia's excellent illustrations. Which brings up yet another astounding fact about her: get a couple of glasses of virtual champagne into her, and she'll admit to being on a first name basis with most of the Sci-Fi Greats! She's even got a set with pictures... if pictures of authors are something one wishes to see (sometimes, we're better off with the illusions...)

But what really gets me, Lydia will on occasion let rip with a series of straight photographs that are simply awesome: technically and artistically top-notch. Now THAT is simply unfair! ;)"

"Lydia's work is haunting, emotional, inspired, inspiring and above all, extremely original and unique. She has a masterful command of technical processing ability, but it is her vision and originality that are the hallmark of her work. Lydia's art can not be placed in a simple category. She is pushing the boundaries of what the mixture of modern photography and art is and can become. I would hope to see more photographers abandoning the cliche flower macros and sunsets and begin to really challenge themselves to do something that burns from within, as this is the essence of Lydia's amazing art. You will find no cliches ,or even a mediocre shot in her stream. Lydia's work shows us all what art and artists can and should aspire to be.... original, emotional and thought provoking. I can not sing her praises enough."

"Ever since Lydia Marano landed, flickr has been enriched by her consistent winning imagery.
I allude to her rich, multi layered compositions that are voted " the best of the Man Ray contest" almost every week! - See the threads, count the numbers, she Rocks! O_O
If all that wasn't enough, she is one of life's givers, she donates loads of time to anyone that needs her expert IT and HTML skills,
In fact Lydia has become such an indispensable admin. for Man Ray, I just don't know how we got along without her? o_O"
