My name is Max Wilbert, and I was born and raised in Seattle. I've always been around cameras (my dad is into photography), and have come to enjoy taking pictures.

Since then I have been the official photographer for an expedition to study climate change in Sibera; the multimedia editor for an on campus magazine; a staff photographer for an on campus newspaper; a wedding photographer; a commercial and food photographer; and more.

Photographs allow us to slow down and contemplate the world at a pace that is rarely tolerated in the dominant culture. They allow us a certain distance that, paradoxically, tends to shatter the veil and bring us closer to the unfolding reality in front of our eyes. I strive for honesty in my photography. I have no interest in sanitized, micro-managed images – my goal is to show the complexity, beauty, and sorrow of the world in all of its forms. My work is a sort of cinema verite: try to forget about the camera and let your senses carry you into these images, and from there into the real world…
