I started liking photography about the age of 8, I began with an old cucus webcam, shooting bugs found at the backyard - because the lack of mobility I had to bring them to my room and make dioramas/terrariums in order to photograph them, this also got me into keeping bugs as pets.
At 15 my parents bought our first real digital camera, a Olympus D-390, there was no optical zoom and the minimal focus distance was 20cm but using a magnifying glass I managed to make some half-descent macros. About one year later that camera was robbed.
The common cricket
The next one would be one with full manual controls and a much better macro distance, a Canon A510. The minimal focus distance of this camera was 5cm, but using a haldheld broken 44mm lens in front of it (taken out from a film camera, non-reflex), I reduced the focus to about 2cm and finally was able to get spider faces filling the entire frame!
At end of 2007, the last update is a Canon S5 IS, I've chosen it for the possibilites of a superzoom allied with a close-up lens (Raynox DCR250, bought some months after the S5). Its the camera I use most of the time now, and apart from macro, now with a superzoom I also started into bird photography.

"En macrofotografia, Joao tiene el ojo puesto. Con su edad es ya todo un simbolo de calidad y tecnica. La promesa del mundo natural en miniatura sin duda."
