“I have always looked upon decay as being just as wonderful and rich an expression of life as growth.” - Henry Miller

most people
don't expect
to find
beauty
while wandering around
city streets,
dark alleys,
deserted buildings,
under bridges, and
along railroad tracks.

but we do. we've come to expect it. we know that we'll find it there because we have learned to look for beauty all around us. as a matter of fact, that is how we found each other.

Walking along the railroad tracks, taking pictures and looking for...something, we just didn't know what. We found a bolt. The color, the texture, the oxidation that had occurred; it inspired us. It was damaged and rusty and imperfect and beautiful. After walking a bit further, we were fortunate to stumble upon the matching nut.

A perfect pair. A bolt and a nut, both unique enough in their own right. But so much stronger, more effective and really, if we're going to be honest, so much happier together. A dichotomy of sorts, mimicking our own relationship.

Rusty Nut Studio is comprised of two people. They met one day, and in time, they discovered that they liked taking pictures. They liked making things. And, as is turns out, they liked doing it together. They also found that they too, much like that rusty bolt and nut, were damaged and rusty and imperfect and yes, even a little bit beautiful.

i aspire to take beautiful pictures of average things because i believe that beauty is all around us - in a blade of grass, a rusty nut, a broken chair, you and me. we are all beautiful, even when - no, especially when we are broken.

start with nothing but an idea, nourish it as it grows, but let it grow on its own. a few basic patterns, each conforming to the current environment, a bit of imagination...poof! you've got something that is more than just the sum of it's parts. value, worth, importance, meaning, it is all a matter of perspective. the universe is what you make it.

Our Nikons are our best friends, but we often invite others to the party. Using a few different Duaflex cameras is a great way to get that beat up, vintage look. Building our own lens filters out of rubber and electrical tape gives us a creative edge that we haven't seen elsewhere., We don't post edit. The vibrancy in our images comes from a good eye and hard work. What we see is what you get.
