I’m always searching for a mood rather than perfection. Shootin’ photos is my personal way to catch a feeling, a glance, the start of a story, something hidden or untold. I'm not really interested in what camera I use.
Don't remember why I started taking and collecting pictures. I only remember that at age eight I got my first camera - a Bencini Comet 127 - from my german grandfather. This was the start of it all. That camera was stolen two years later on a train coming back from Machu Pichu. Then my father had a traditional darkroom and I often like to spent some hours there with him developing and processing photos, something for me as a kid really obscure and magic at the same time.
In my teens I was completely mind blowed by rock music artwork, expecially Hipgnosis, Peter Saville and Anton Corbijn. Later - during my days as a cinema student - I was stunned by the movie of Ingmar Bergman, Michelangelo Antonioni, Wim Wenders and Werner Herzog. But only when I saw Andrej Tarkosvkij works something I can’t explain happened: he shows me a really different way and approach to images, a superb style and composition, and like no other he was able to show life as a reflection, life as a dream, life as a ancient mystery.
In summer 2006 I started a research about interaction between darkness and lìght with new caledonian painter and performer Béatrice de France and the cooperation of brilliant Italian musicians (Pgr, Marlene Kuntz, Bachi da Pietra), This research lead to the project “in principio erano le ombre”, a performance based on improvisation and which should feature a complete interaction and fusion between art expressions - in this case painting and music - that scarcely meet each other in live gigs. Of course my previous experiences as photographer and musician help me so much trying to develop the strange vision that move this project.
Finally I would like to thank you for the time you have dedicated reading this short story and seeing my photos.
