Sylvester Larsen (b. 1973) Danish songwriter from Copenhagen. Spent three years In New York as a kid attending public school, while his father pursued a musical career with "The jungle dreams". Ocassionally Sylvester was allowed to come along when daddy rehearsed in Tapan with keyboard player Joe Delia. In an adjoining room he laid on the couch watching videoes. One particular movie had a great impact on him, and that was "The Sting" starring Paul Newman and Robert Redford. The score by ragtime legend Scott Joplin, immediately got his attention and has been a huge source of inspiration ever since. Back in Denmark Sylvester took his first step towards a musical career starting out on the drums, but acknowledging his lack of skill, switched to piano a couple of years later. In 2002 Sylvester released his first solo album to much critical acclaim. The album title "Mandagsramasjang" can be directly translated to "Monday Shenanigans" , which pretty much sums up the mood and spirit of the twelve songs. Good reviews and interest generated a great deal of gigs throughout the country, and established Sylvester as a deeply original and entertaining artist. In 2004 the follow up "Smaa Synder" (Small sins) emerged and a couple of years later "Skal du være fraek" (Looking for trouble?). By then Sylvester felt a deep urge to make a radical career change. Singing in his native tongue didnt feel right in regard to the new songs hed been working on for the past year, and decided to accompany the melodies with english lyrics. Sylvesters music can best be described as a daring crossover between now and then, but talk is cheap and the music speaks best for itself.
