I have always had an interest in the arts and food for as long as I can remember.
I spent weekends cooking and baking and dreaming out being somewhere else.
My first kitchen job was at The Lark Creek Inn in the pastry department where I
peeled cases of apples and learned about new ingredients and the intensity and
drudgery of a kitchen.
I ran off to Manhattan and worked as a photo assistant. I took lots of pictures.
Then I moved to Santa Monica and worked for Wolfgang Puck and Nancy Silverton.
I languished in the Villa Carlotta and lurked around restaurants and bars savoring
each character that passed by or stopped to chat.
I really began photographing seriously when I moved to Nashville to live with a
songwriter.
There was always so much activity to record. Real America.
I managed to skim off some images of Americans having a good time.
I'm interested in people so naturally I photograph them more than anything else.
And paint them too.
