I am a painter, working with a vocabulary of images that has developed over a number of years. Through the work, I aim to express a sense of quiet simplicity. I work with watercolour, tempera, gesso and oils. The themes that concern me include : how light enters a room and moves across the landscape, simple objects - suggestive of touch and intimacy, talismanic fragments that reconnect and build their own narratives. Much of the work is inspired by my connection with the space and light of the West Coast of Scotland, especially the Isle of Iona, a place I have visited many times over 35 years. I am a graduate of Glasgow School of Art and The Royal College of Art. I have exhibited throughout the U.K, including shows with The Bruton Gallery, Leeds, The Collective Gallery and The Richard Demarcl Foundation, Edinburgh and Cambridge Contemporary Art. I have taken part in an number of London Art Fairs. My work is held in a number of private collections and a collection of my work is sited at the Marie Curie Hospice, Bradford. The Director of The Bruton Gallery, Yorkshire has described the work as having 'an exquisite yet quiet hand with a sense of simple beauty and calmness'. My time is presently shared between the activities of teaching and my own practice.
