These are the kinds of images that make you stop and pay attention - wide ranging in subject matter and technical effects, but all with a cohesive and definitive beauty and characteristic charm that is evident in each unique work. Visiting this photostream is like entering a dream world - a beautiful escape from time and reality that rivets the eyes and imagination...viewing each image is like walking onto an artist's canvas and into the environs of a great masterpiece. Ever the consummate Flickr member - warm, friendly, funny, and intelligent - I consider it a joy to have Sunset Sailor as a contact."

"Alan has been a friend since my first days on Flickr. He has inspired me and encouraged me in my own work. His love of the past is apparent in all his works. His Photoshop skills are some of the best on Flickr...he should teach a class. Alan's a kind, sweet, wonderful person as well as being a talented artist. He always has kind comments, or funny comments, or fabulous advice to give me. He's someone I would call a friend in the non-Flickr universe. Thank you Alan for your support and thank you for sharing your art with us all. xxx"

"A gem of a photostream - Alan's world is a calm, nostolgic place to travel to and slow way, way down....
Clean your screen, pour a glass of wonderful cabernet, put your feet up and enjoy. Find your inner peace. You won't be sorry, as its time well spent."23rd October, 2008

"Somehow Alan dips into a time portal and travels into the past and brings back amazing views of a time long gone. Thanks for those trips SS, thanks for preserving a rich and glorious past of what once was....keep sailing off into those distant sunsets.

"I've wanted to write a note about Alan for some time now and it's about time I did. He's been one of my favorite people on flickr because of his warmth, his thoughtful comments, and his great sense of humor coupled with wonderful insights about this beautiful world in which we live. His ability to take a photo of something from today and turn it into a memory of yesterday is really inspiring and often heart touching. He does this despite his sailor persona. It would seem the "sunset" part of his name accurately captures who he is and the kind lovliness he sheds on those he calls his friends. Thank you, Alan, for making me your contact and friend. I'm very thankful for who you are."

mothernature photography says:
"Follow this sailor into the sunset, he will take you for a cruise you won't soon forget. You will see more than seascapes but islands of interest overflowing with lines, structure, colors but most of all textures. The textures of life- he masterfully casts a net over his subjects to suggest their true strength of character.
Speaking of character, don't let his salty ways fool you, he is actually a highly sensitive and creative man, a gentleman in fact. Now don't you edit this out Alan; I am here to blow your cover!
You would do well to voyage through his photostream, even better to call him a friend."29th March, 2008

"Sunset Sailor's enthusiasm for the photographic hobby is as obvious as his talent, evidenced by consistently excellent postings. The content is interesting, timely, and thoughtful.
With his encouraging comments and generous advice Sunset Sailor is a constant booster of his fellow Flickroids. Don't know what he does in the day-to-day world, but the quality of his images are rivaled by his way with words.
If Flickr should ever hold a contest to determine who is the perfect member, Sunset Sailor would certainly have a strong claim to the title."8th June, 2007

"I first noticed Alan popping up all over the place with comments displaying insight, intelligence and considerable knowledge.
I also asked for him to be a contact because I love cars and old things. He is great at "seeing the photo" and so good at recording these."2nd March, 2007

Gwyn Michael says:
"On the tails of Duff to glorify the sailor is not a bad place to be. These 2 men are solely responsible, for a major shift in my definition of what photography is or isn't for me. I was on the fence about HDR, and highly processed images, buying into the purist philosophy. When I saw saw what Duff, and Alan were doing I jumped right off that fence. Photography, digital imagery, art, call it what you will, what you see on Alan's stream is some of the best stuff on flickr hands down!In addition to being an artiste, he is a nice guy, willing to share his knowledge, and with always a kind word. On top of that, he wears a pirate costume!!!"

Desolate Places says:
"Allright Sailor...this is a long time coming...
Sunset Sailor has basically inspired and revolutionized the way that I approach photography. I lurked for a while, checking in once in a while to see what amazing wreck, diner, building or ship he was posting...until one day his talent just blew my doors off and I had to jump into the mix.
Hands down he is one of the best when it comes to the sea, ships and antiquated autos...and he turned me onto HDR which I will be forever grateful for!
Keep up the excellent work!"1st January, 2007
