I've been taking photos forever with various cameras (including a Nikon SLR and an old Praktika). In 2007 I bought my first DSLR, a Canon XT. I currently have a Canon 7D and a 40D.

I love detail and minimalism. And natural light. Sometimes I feel like a tourist in my own world. I like to look at everything to see what there is to be discovered—often ordinary things to which people don't pay much attention. The way I see it, beauty can be found in strange places.

Flickr has been a great place to learn, look, and share what I've learned. For a few years now I've been a mod/admin in Photography Critique and its sister groups Photography Critique Assignments and Photography Critique - Discussion.

You're very welcome to leave unsolicited critiques—positive or negative—or drop me a line. I enjoy reading your FMs. I do not respond to questions about where exactly I live, what I do at work, or where certain photos were taken, if close to home. Thanks for understanding.

I'm happy with my lenses: Canon 50mm f/1.4; Canon 10-22mm; Canon 24-70mm L; Canon 85mm f/1.8; Canon 35mm L; Canon 100mm macro; Canon 100-400mm L. I calibrate my monitor with eye-one display LT.

Have a great day,
summerspot :)

"summerspot is a flickr friend you can count on for inspiration.

She has an uncanny ability to spot some unnoticed detail that will take the image up a notch! It demonstrates an attention to detail and a willingness to offer more than the casual glance at your images.

I wish I could see the percentage of photographs over the whole in a contact's stream that I have 'faved'. I think I would find that I have done so on close to 80% of summerspots' images. She has a way of seeing that is truly inspiring and I feel privileged to have come across her work."

"I always get excited when summerspot uploads a new photograph.

While other photographers are able to take a technically good picture of something, summerspot captures the essence of things and infuses her own unique view into it. She transforms the abandoned and rusted into beautiful images full of history and depth, she captures personality in her portraits, she creates moods in otherwise stale environments.

I especially love her minimalism. summerspot has a great eye for space. She knows when to use it, when to not and she creates fantastic balance in her photographs with strong, yet subtle tension.

Beyond her skill as a photographer, she's also been a great resource over the past three years I've known her: always gracious, willing and honest with her advice and critiques. Thank you so much for your inspiration, help, and friendship, summerspot!"

"Summerspot and I go way back. I think we first met in the photography critique group. She has been an active member in our photography critique assignment (PCA) group, and she is one of the strongest members and contributors.
Her critiques are top notch. If you know Summerspot you will come to realize that she does take the extra time to study your photo. If you have one dust spot that measures microns, she will find it. I remember once when summerspot uploaded a picture of herself and described winning an award. I was so proud of her then. The picture subsequently disappeared several days later. I think she has gained more courage and posted several more self-portraits since. Hey...Im no better in this regard. No sp's of me anymore. Summerspots photography is awesome. She does have the photographers eye and can take on an assignment and come out on top every time. I truly appreciate having her as a flickr friend and highly regard her feedback on my images. Keep up the great work Summerspot.
