One of my earliest memories of the world around me is that of a yellow creature tearing away the earth in my village, thumping it and leveling it into a road – it was a bulldozer. Growing up as a kid I remember there were hardly any good books at home. It was only in 6th grade that I came across a thing called dictionary, it was a fascinating discovery. By 9th grade I saw magazines with images that fascinated me way more than the dictionaries. My time in the school library was spent mostly leafing through National Geographic magazines. I realized that my imagination was triggered by the powerful images seen in the first place. There wasn’t any TV at home then. The articles and images combined would get me to imagine the skills and equipment required to create such publications. In my fantasies I visualized myself as part of the team creating those images and thinking of larger context of how those photographs were created. An image is read within the constraints of its framing and borders, but my fascination grew with what lies beyond the frame – the bigger and holistic picture!
Those images developed a fascinating link between me and the unseen far away cultures. I am hereby sketching my journey from pondering unconsciously at the mountains at home to now in the present as I consciously try to peruse a career in a kind of visual arts and communications after studying communication design and photography on the way. In this post modern world the human mind is dominated by image. The visual medium reigns supreme in every sphere of knowledge, because of that belief I got into National College of Arts (Lahore, Pakistan) and just graduated from the college, now am out to make a career using different elements of visual communication. Later at some point I'd be doing masters in Visual Anthropology.
