Artist Statment.
my work is an examination and enquiry into the Still Life, using Dutch and Spanish Still Life painters of the 16th and 17th century as cultural and aesthetic influences.
the use of objects, images and visual aesthetics of the work borrows from the vanitas tradition of the Dutch and Spanish 16th and 17th century painters. The work produced begins as elaborate still life sets which use meat, offal, fruit, fabrics, colour, light and composition symbolically represents the passing of time.
The sets are digitally photographed and are constantly trying o capture a painterly aesthetic.
The practice aims to juxtapose the fresh beauty of new life with the decaying beauty of a passing lfe, through a series of painterly photographs. The process of enhanced digital photography aims to capture the quality of the passing of time. an illusion of a reality explores, challenges, and reflects the way we perceive preservation and remberance with symbolic meaning whose purpose it is to verify the relationship between the writen word and painting.
Objects and materials has been translated through symbolic meaning which contributes to the overhall message through is a powerful means of communication which conveys the terminology of the objects and materials into a thought or memory to communiicate with the viewer.
By using a range of processes and to look and enquire into the painterly look of representation of the 16th and 17th century still life to the present days technology and aesthetics, this delves ,further and provokes a deception through the use of symbolism ,this is were the dark and subdued lighting comes in. the lighting is part of the symbolic tradition of the vanitas, To change this it would no longer be a vanitas, the light and composition is the main story of the symbolic realm.of my unique style.
