Have a Canon XTi with kit lens (18-55) 50mm 2.5 and 75-300 III. Also a set of Hoya Close up filters (+1, +2, +4). Hope to upgrade someday.

I shoot 99% of the time in RAW format. It has saved me more than a few times.
For my post work I am using Corel Photopaint X4. I also recommend NEAT IMAGE to remove noise from images. Works like a charm. The trial can be used endlessly, just can't save in TIF or BMP format.
For my HDR images I use Photomatix Pro.

The majority of my insect shots are cropped since I don't have a high power 1:1 macro lens yet.
