About the Streekarchief Land van Heusden en Altena
The Streekarchief Land van Heusden en Altena is situated in the ancient fortified town of Heusden, province of Noord-Brabant, the Netherlands. Our record office preserves and provides access to a wide range of resources, which can be used to research the history of the Land van Heusden en Altena. Nowadays, this region consists of four major municipalities (Aalburg, Heusden, Werkendam and Woudrichem). Our collections, dating from the fourteenth century to the present day, include not only archives of local and regional governmental institutions, like municipalities, law-courts and polder-boards, but of many private organisations as well: for example religious communities, societies, associations, families and persons.

Het Streekarchief Land van Heusden en Altena is gevestigd in de oude vestingstad Heusden in de provincie Noord-Brabant. Het Streekarchief beheert en biedt toegang tot een groot aantal archieven en collecties uit het Land van Heusden en Altena. Dit gebied bestaat uit vier gemeenten (Aalburg, Heusden, Werkendam en Woudrichem). De archivalia van het Streekarchief dateren van de veertiende eeuw tot heden en zijn afkomstig van lokale en regionale overheidsinstellingen zoals gemeenten en waterschappen maar ook van particuliere instellingen, waarbij te denken valt aan de archieven van kerken, verenigingen, families en personen.

About the historical photo collections of the Streekarchief
The Streekarchief Land van Heusden en Altena photo collection comprises about 75.000 photos, postcards, slides and (glass) negatives which cover a period of well over a century of local and regional history. Partly, this photo collection can already be viewed and searched online. During the next years, the whole collection will be digitized and made available on our website.

De fotocollectie van het Streekarchief Land van Heusden en Altena bestaat uit ongeveer 75.000 foto's, ansichtkaaren, dia's en (glas)negatieven. Deze documenten geven een beeld van ruim een eeuw lokale en regionale geschiedenis. Op dit moment kan onze collectie Beeld en geluid gedeeltelijk worden geraadpleegd en doorzocht via onze website. In de komende jaren zal de gehele collectie worden gedigitaliseerd en via de website beschikbaar worden gesteld.

Because of the general theme of this year's national 'Week van de Geschiedenis' - War and Peace - we have selected almost 200 images dating from World War I and World War II. Door een deel van onze fotocollecties op Flickr the Commons te plaatsen, wil het Streekarchief Land van Heusden en Altena zijn historische fotocollecties met een breder publiek delen. Vanwege het algemene thema van de landelijke Week van de Geschiedenis 2009 - Oorlog en vrede - hebben wij bijna 200 foto's gekozen die zijn gemaakt tijdens de Eerste en Tweede Wereldoorlog. U kunt ons helpen onze kennis van de fotocollecties te verrijken door tags en commentaren toe te voegen.
